Hi, I'm Summer
As a parent of five CCUSD students, including one recent graduate, I’m passionate about our district and have spent the past 13 years volunteering, working to eliminate barriers, and advocating for equity for all. I was appointed to the Culver City school board in March 2017 then elected for a full term in November 2018. I've served on the El Rincon Elementary and Culver City Middle School PTA Boards and School Site Council; the Culver City Council of PTAs Executive Board; CCUSD’s Inclusion, Respect, and Diversity Task Force; started the Environmental Sustainability Food Services subcommittee; and I helped establish a district-wide Equity Advisory Council that was instrumental in creating the district’s first-ever board-approved strategic equity plan. I serve with our Special Education committees, the Culver Needs committee supporting our immigrant/foster youth/low-income families, the Labor Management Partnership collaborating with our labor unions, and the Food Services subcommittee reducing waste, increasing sustainability, and identifying healthier, locally sourced foods. I attended Loyola Marymount University and also worked in the School of Education in the Department of Language and Culture as well as the Student Success Center supporting student teachers. I've successfully completed the California School Board Association Masters in Governance program and the CSBA Leadership Institute. I'm currently a certified parenting instructor and trained facilitator of Centering Pregnancy (group prenatal care) at Charles Drew University and Umma Community Clinic. I also serve as faculty for iDREAM for Racial Health Equity and as a co-chair on the LA County African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Community Action Team. In 2021, I was appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission for the Department of Public Social Services by Supervisor Holly Mitchell.
